This webinar explored how government can leverage frontier technologies for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and resilience, profiling success cases and addressing the barriers to scaling these innovations across developing country contexts.

Shanghai, People’s Republic of China – UNITAR, in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) successfully held the Learning Conference “Implementing the 2030 Agenda in the Asia-Pacific Region” in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, on the 23rd and 24th of January 2019.

Jointly convened by the International Budget Partnership (IBP) and UNDESA’s Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), this interactive session discussed how supreme audit institutions may contribute to understanding and enhancing budget credibility through their audits. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes the need to build peaceful, just and inclusive societies that provide equal access to justice and that are based on respect for human rights (including the right to development), on effective rule of law and good governance at all levels and on transparent, effective and accountable institutions” (A/RES/70/1, para. 35). Goal 16 of the 2030 Agenda specifically calls for effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

DPIDG/UNPOG organized the workshop on “Mobilizing and equipping public servants to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and achieve the SDGs”, in parallel with the Regional Symposium. The Workshop is part of the programme of the UN DESA Global Initiative for Schools of Public Administration on the SDGs. 

The Forum on Strengthening Capacities of Public Administration in Island States: Equipping Public Institutions, Strengthening Resilience and Building Effective Partnerships for Implementing the 2030 Agenda concluded on August 24 after four days of interactive sessions, applied exercises, site visits and country presentations. The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development was held from July 9 to 18, 2018 in the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The forum took place under the theme of transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies. Especially 6 goals of the Sustainable Development Goals were discussed during the forum; Goal 6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, Goal 7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, Goal 11.
