Global Initiative on Governance for the SDGs

The Global Initiative on Governance for the SDGs engages schools of public administration and regional associations of public administration through a Global Network of Schools of Public Administration. Its aim is to strengthen the capacities of  governments and  public servants (in terms of knowledge, skills, attitude, leadership competences and mindset) to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

It was established in 2018 following a meeting held in Morocco with Schools of Public Administration who expressed an interest in working together. It is composed of a global network of schools of public administration and regional task forces of schools of public administration.

The initiative aims to support dialogue among the schools of public administration within and across regions on the importance of mainstreaming the SDGs in their training  programs and developing the necessary skills of public servants to respond to governments’ priorities in implementing the 2030 Agenda.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Global Initiative are:

  • To inspire public sector leaders and public servants to mainstream the principles of the 2030 Agenda and to include the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their public-sector performance strategies, plans and programs
  • To inspire Institutes responsible for training public servants to include in their training curricula both the principles and the Goals of the sustainable development agenda
  • To contribute to the development of the competencies required by public sector leaders and public servants for the achievement of SDGs through the development of revised and/or new curricula
  • To develop a Curriculum on Governance for the SDGs in collaboration with experts and schools of public administration.
