Building Capacities of Training Schools and Institutes of Public Administration to implement the 2030 Agenda and attain the SDGs

To contribute to developing the capacity of public servants to embrace the principles and values of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs in their daily work, UNDESA, through its global initiative, is engaging with schools and institutes of public administration to mobilize and equip public servants for implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and attain the SDGs as well as developing and updating their curricula to reflect the SDGs and the key principles and objectives of the 2030 Agenda.

Symposium on “Leveraging Public Governance to Accelerate the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals - Transformation, Innovation & Inclusion”

UN DESA’s Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG) and in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) of the Government of the Republic of Korea, organized a symposium on “Leveraging Public Governance to Accelerate the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals – Transformation, Innovation & Inclusion”. 

Symposium on Strengthening Capacities of Public Institutions for Transformation, Innovation and Ethical Leadership to Realize the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 in East Africa

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Kenya, co-organized the Symposium on “Strengthening Capacities of Public Institutions for Transformation, Innovation and Ethical Leadership to Realize the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 in East Africa”, from 16 to 18 October 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya at the Kenya School of Government.

Interregional Capacity Development Workshop on Digital Government Implementation for SDGs 

DPIDG/UNPOG and DGB, in collaboration with UN ESCAP, organized the Interregional Capacity Development Workshop on Digital Government Implementation for SDGs on 23-24 July in Bangkok, Thailand. The aim of the Workshop was to build individual and institutional capacities of LDCs, SIDS and LLDCs through various digitalgov implementation toolkits, particularly the DIGIT4SD toolkit. Participants from 27 countries, mostly mid-level to senior government officials from LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS, from Asia and the Pacific and Africa attended the two-day Workshop.

Changing Mindsets in Public Sector Institutions

DPDIG has been building the capacities of member states to implement the SDGs, especially by focusing on senior public servants. This workshop was an opportunity to dialogue with IASIA to include in its criteria for accrediting training programs in Public Administration, the values, principles and competences for implementing the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. The workshop was organized over the course of five days. It was conducted through short substantive presentations in plenary, discussion in plenary and working group discussions.
