Interregional Capacity Development Workshop on Digital Government Implementation for SDGs 

DPIDG/UNPOG and DGB, in collaboration with UN ESCAP, organized the Interregional Capacity Development Workshop on Digital Government Implementation for SDGs on 23-24 July in Bangkok, Thailand. The aim of the Workshop was to build individual and institutional capacities of LDCs, SIDS and LLDCs through various digitalgov implementation toolkits, particularly the DIGIT4SD toolkit. Participants from 27 countries, mostly mid-level to senior government officials from LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS, from Asia and the Pacific and Africa attended the two-day Workshop.

Expert Group Meeting on “The Future of Digital Government for Sustainable Development in Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States, and the Landlocked Developing Countries”

The Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), organized an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the Emerging Trends and Needs of Digital Government in Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs). This was part of the preparation process of the United Nations E-Government Survey 2020.

Study Visit on Advancing E-Government Development for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

E-government is a crucial enabler for implementing the SDGs by improving effectiveness and efficacy of government and its public service delivery. Leveraging e-government can also foster inclusiveness and accountability of public services by ensuring access of the vulnerable groups to the basic government services and promoting participation of citizens in the process of decision-making.

Executive Development Course on Digital Government for Transformation Towards Sustainable and Resilient Societies – The Singapore Experience

UNPOG successfully co-organized the Executive Development Course on Digital Government for Transformation Towards Sustainable and Resilient Societies – The Singapore Experience, which was held on April 2-6, 2018 in Singapore. The Course was attended by 27 participants, mainly the national SDG focal points, from 20 countries in Asia and the Pacific, Eastern Africa and Latin America. The Course was composed of sessions and panel discussions on diverse topics of digital government as well as several field visits to experience Singapore’s digital government services.

Advancing SMART Cities and Urban Digital Transformation to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals

The future of sustainable development will be determined in part in urban areas. Despite various challenges, urbanization can be a driving force for sustainability when anchored on the principles of sustainable development. Rapid advancement of digital technologies and applications has created also enormous opportunities and expectations for cities to harness digital tools to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Increasingly, digital technologies are integrated into the lives and livelihoods of people, often considered an essential part of the SMART city toolbox.

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs' Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (UN DESA / DPIDG), through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), and in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) of the Government of the Republic of Korea, organized the 5th Regional Symposium on "Effective Public Governance and Digital Transformation for Building Back Better," which was held on 16 - 18 November 2021 (11:00 a.m - 14:00 p.m. GMT+9, Seoul Time).

E-Participation and E-Government: Understanding the Present and Creating the Future - Report of the Ad Hoc Expert Group Meeting on Budapest, Hungary

In its endeavour to support Member States in the area of ICT for development, the United Nations Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM) organized an Expert Group Meeting on E-Participation and E-Government: Understanding the Present and Creating the Future from 27-28 July 2006 in Budapest, Hungary. The Meeting was organized as part of the ‘International E-participation and Local Democracy Symposium on Promoting Social Inclusion via E-participation, hosted by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, United Kingdom. The UNDESA Meeting on E-Participation and E-Government: Understanding the Present and Creating the Future provided an opportunity to review e-participation and e-government experiences, determine the strengths and weaknesses of the initiatives, and search for options and methodologies that may support a more inclusive e-government approach.
