Workshop on “Government Innovation for Social Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups” during the United Nations Public Service Forum

DPIDG, through its Project Office on Governance, organized the Workshop on “Government Innovation for Social Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups” with participants diversely represented from LDCs, SIDS, LLDCs and middle- and low-income countries. The theme of this workshop is highly relevant to pursuing the overarching principle of leaving no one behind in the context of SDG implementation. This workshop was structured with an aim to review different dimensions of promoting social inclusion of vulnerable groups.

Strengthening Capacities of Asia-Pacific Local Authorities to Build Resilient Societies through Disaster Risk Reduction in Sustainable Development Strategies

DPIDG, through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), co-organized a four-day training workshop with UNDRR and UNITAR on "Strengthening the Capacities of Asia-Pacific Local Authorities to Build Resilient Societies through Disaster Risk Reduction in Sustainable Development Strategies" from 4-7 June 2019 in Jeju, Republic of Korea. 25 participants attended the workshop and are primarily from local governments in target countries such as Lao PDR, Bangladesh, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Nepal.

Expert Group Meeting on “The Future of Digital Government for Sustainable Development in Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States, and the Landlocked Developing Countries”

The Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), organized an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the Emerging Trends and Needs of Digital Government in Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs). This was part of the preparation process of the United Nations E-Government Survey 2020.

Learning Conference on “Holistic Approaches for Implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Caribbean Region”

15 – 16 May 2019, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) teamed up and co-organized the Learning Conference Implementing the 2030 Agenda in the Caribbean Region.

Study Visit on Advancing E-Government Development for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

E-government is a crucial enabler for implementing the SDGs by improving effectiveness and efficacy of government and its public service delivery. Leveraging e-government can also foster inclusiveness and accountability of public services by ensuring access of the vulnerable groups to the basic government services and promoting participation of citizens in the process of decision-making.

CEPA 18th Session

The Committee of Experts on Public Administration held its eighteenth session at the United Nations in New York from 8 to 12 April 2019 with the overall theme of “Building strong institutions for equal and inclusive societies”.

A key message of the session was that building equal and inclusive societies and leaving no one behind requires addressing the deep inequalities that exist in many countries. This in turn may require institutions at all levels to play a greater role in promoting and enforcing non-discriminatory laws and policies.
