Good Practices and Innovations in Public Governance: United Nations Public Service Awards Winners, 2012-2013

This publication provides an overview of 91 successful innovations in governance and public administration from 38 countries that received the United Nations Public Service Awards, which is the most prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service. The purpose of this book is to disseminate, through descriptive case studies, information about innovative practices by looking at the problem that led to an innovation; the solution that was designed and implemented to respond to the specific challenge; the actors and steps involved in the innovation process, and lessons learned. Learning more about how public institutions from around the world have solved difficult governance challenges can be a powerful and inspirational tool for those engaged in improving public sector performance.

World Public Sector Report 2018

The World Public Sector Report 2018 examines how governments, public institutions and public administration can foster integrated approaches to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The report examines key challenges and opportunities for integrated approaches from the perspective of public administration, highlighting experiences from past decades both at the sectoral and cross-sectoral levels. Compendium of National Institutional Arrangements for implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: 2019 Update

Since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015, countries have continuously updated institutional arrangements in order to enable government institutions and other stakeholders to implement the Agenda. This compendium aims to document institutional arrangements related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in a simple but standard way. The compendium covers the 46 countries that presented Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) in 2018 at the United Nations High-level Political Forum on sustainable Development.

United Nations E-Government Survey 2018

The 2018 UN E-Government Survey is published as the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advances to its third year. Governments have the critical responsibility to pursue policies and measures to build resilience and assist those most affected by shocks in achieving SDGs. They must find ways to anticipate disasters and shocks and lower their impact. Digital technologies are increasingly being used by governments to improve the response to disasters and other shocks to improve the resilience of communities.

Towards Improved Access to Broadband Internet in Support of Africa’s Transformation

The present policy brief is drawn from a recent study by ECA entitled “Towards improved access to broadband in Africa”. It summarizes the evidence on broadband access in Africa and provides key policy recommendations for consideration by African policymakers and decision-makers. It is hoped that it will contribute to explorations of how best to build up broadband infrastructure on the continent and thus make broadband services easily accessible and affordable to citizens and firms.
