The current COVID-19 pandemic calls for unprecedented efforts and coordinated action.

As is well known, COVID-19 has reached many African countries. African countries have to quickly move from COVID-19 readiness to response as confirmed cases appear. Governments and health authorities across the continent are striving to limit widespread infections . Yet, more than 40% of the population in Africa lives below the global poverty line and many cannot afford testing toolkits. A high number of people in African countries will become unemployed as most of them are employed in the primary industry and tourism.

The Regional Symposium on Effective, Inclusive and Accountable Public Institutions and Digital Government Transformation for Resilient Recovery and the SDG Implementation was held from 24 to 26 November and from 23 to 25 November 2021.

This virtual symposium aimed to equip public institutions from Asia and the Pacific region with the capacities necessary for sustainable and resilient recovery while focusing on implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) and its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) with the support of the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) Malaysia co-organized an Online Training Workshop on “Government Innovation for Social Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups” to pilot the Training Toolkit on the same topic. Some selected Modules from the Toolkit were covered during the 2-day Training Workshop.

The Fifteenth Annual Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was hosted online by the United Nations under the overarching theme Internet for human resilience and solidarity. The programme was built around the four main thematic tracks:  (1) Data; (2) Environment; (3) Inclusion; (4) Trust. 

The 2nd Open Consultations and MAG Meeting of the 2020 IGF preparatory cycle took place 15-19 June 2020 in a fully online environment in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more

This event highlighted the 2020 edition of the United Nations E-Government Survey. It included an in-depth presentation of the Survey data and results, followed by expert reflections on the findings. The world we live in has changed so much since the last edition of the Survey, released two years ago – has digital governance kept up with the pace? Is it well-equipped to face the challenges that are ahead?
