UN DESA’s Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) provides capacity development support and policy advice to countries upon their request to strengthen governments’ capacities to translate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other internationally agreed goals into institutional arrangements, strategies, and programs for effective service delivery and participatory, accountable, and inclusive decision-making processes. It does so through several modalities. It oversees the development of strategy guidance notes, undertakes peer-to-peer learning workshops, training of trainers, direct advisory support, and the development and implementation of capacity development projects.

The "Global Smart City" (2022 Edition) was completed by the Smart City Research Group of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences in cooperation with the Smart City Research Center of Fudan University's School of Management, with continuous support from the UN Public Administration Network (UNPAN). It was the sixth release of the research outcome of the Smart City Think Tank.

The UN E-Government Survey 2022 was launched on 28 September 2022. The theme of the 12th edition of the Survey is “The Future of Digital Government”. The Survey looks at how digital government can facilitate integrated policies and services across the 193 United Nations Member States. It supports countries’ efforts to provide effective, accountable and inclusive digital services to all and to bridge the digital divide and leave no one behind.
