The Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) and Committee of Experts on Environmental Economic Accounting organized this side event, held on 12 July 2022, on the occasion of the high-level political forum. The event examined how natural capital accounting (NCA) can help to measure and track climate change and biodiversity, thus providing all institutions with a “common denominator” in the effort to address climate change and biodiversity. 

The Side-Event will focus on institution building and public services delivery in countries emerging from conflicts. It will address SDG 4 on quality education, and SDG 5 on gender equality, and explore innovative strategies to foster youth engagement in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. UN DESA/DPIDG, in collaboration with China National Academy of Governance (CNAG) and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), organized a capacity building webinar on strengthening digital transformation through investing in digital infrastructure, fostering a digital workforce, improving digital government services, building a dynamic digital economy, and developing national digital data policies and strategies for ensuring data quality, access, security, privacy and usage. This training first took stock of mechanisms to enhance the scale of disaster risk reduction finance by the public and private sectors along with approaches to disaster risk reduction finance. The training then provided concepts, tools and approaches for implementing the 2030 Agenda and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 at the local level.

The meeting of the 2022 HLPF on “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” will be held from 5 to 7 July and the week after from 11 to 15 July 2022, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council and will review in-depth Sustainable Development Goals 4, 5, 14, 15, and 17. UN DESA/DPIDG, together with the DSDG – SIDS Unit, in collaboration with the Resident Coordinators Office (RCO) in Jamaica and under the leadership of the Government of Jamaica, is organizing a Capacity Development Workshop. The purpose of the consultation is to strengthen Jamaica’s capacity to develop and implement appropriate enabling legal, institutional and policy frameworks to grow sustainable ocean-based economies and to derive economic benefits from harnessing the productive potential of their ocean spaces.

To celebrate the 2022 United Nations Public Service Day, a virtual event was held on the theme of “Building back better from COVID-19: Enhancing innovative partnerships to meet the Sustainable Development Goals”. It focused on the role of public institutions and public servants in building back better from COVID-19 as they work to meet the 2030 deadline for implementing the SDGs. UN DESA/DPIDG and the International Budget Partnership will hold a webinar on “Promoting Independent External Audits on Credibility of Government Budgets: How Supreme Audit Institutions Assess and Address Budget Credibility” on 16 June 2022.  The interactive event will invite discussion of the results of a survey distributed to the members of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) to learn about their experiences in auditing budget credibility. UN DESA was invited to attend and present on the Principles of Effective Governance and the Curriculum on Governance at the Second Ibero-American Forum on "Implementation Mechanisms of the Agenda 2030" organized by the Latin American Center for Development Administration (CLAD), and the Dominican Republic’s Ministries of Public Administration, and of Finance, Planning, and Development. A UN DESA/DPIDG Staff undertook an advisory mission to North Macedonia during the week of 23-27 May 2022. A series of meetings with high level officials from Minister of Information and Public Administration (MISA) took place to discuss issues related to North Macedonia's public administration reform, the preparation of its new public administration strategy and its alignment with the SDGs and the SG's Common Agenda, etc. To read more, please click the title or picture.
