The 2022 African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and UN DESA regional workshop on strengthening national capacities for the UN Decade of Action for Sustainable Development and AU Agenda 2063 is the third in a series jointly organized in support of building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions in Africa at all levels. It builds on efforts to implement the recommendations reached in previous joint events, in which there has been a clear call to build on the productive synergies forged between the APRM and UN DESA to support countries in implementing the UN principles of effective governance for sustainable development.  

Together with the National Academy of Public Administration, the institution representing the EROPA State membership of Vietnam, the University of Canberra in Australia, and the Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration, we are delighted to invite you to the workshop on “Smart City Development: The Role of Government” to be held virtually on 19 October 2022, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM (Vietnam Time).

The South Asian Network for Public Administration will hold a webinar on "Sustainable Development Goals-Where Do We Stand? Moving Forward - Challenges and Opportunities" on 15 October 2022, at 5:30 PM (Dhaka, Bangladesh Time). This event will feature esteemed speakers from Australia, Bangladesh, India, Qatar, the Philippines, and Nepal.  

UN DESA/DPIDG, in collaboration with ECLAC, is organizing a regional capacity development webinar on Effective governance for transformational change: Strengthening capacities, mindsets and competencies of public institutions to build the next generation of public servants in Latin America & the Caribbean. The webinar launches the Curriculum on Governance for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Latin American and Caribbean region. The event will be held in Spanish and take place on 12 October 2022 from 10 am to 12.30 pm EST. The first LOSI webinar series organized by the Digital Government Branch (DGB) of the DPIDG / UN DESA will focus on the application of LOSI methodology in Jordan. This one-hour webinar will host researchers who conducted the study in 19 cities in the country. The webinar will also highlight opportunities and challenges in e-government at city level while aiming at information sharing and capacity building. UN DESA/DPIDG in collaboration with the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Pakistan of Lahore is organizing a Training of Trainers (ToT) on “Changing Mindsets in Public Institutions to Realize the 2030 Agenda in Pakistan” with the staff of the National Institute of Management of Pakistan. It focuses on public policy formulation and implementation and is a prerequisite for the promotion of the participants to the next grade. For more information, please click title/picture.

UN DESA/DPIDG, through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), in collaboration with the Office of the Ombudsman of Malawi with the support of the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Malawi and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Malawi, is organizing a 3-day National Workshop on “Transparency, Accountability and Ethics in Public Institutions”, which will be held from 2 to 4 August 2022 in Malawi. The Workshop aims to strengthen public institutions to facilitate a more coherent implementation of SDGs.   

UN DESA/DPIDG is organizing two inter-linked capacity development activities under the umbrella of “Advancing innovative and inclusive partnerships and governance in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals” as part of the 2022 International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) Conference which will take place in Rabat, Morocco on July 25-29, 2022. The IASIA Conference will focus on “Implementing and Promoting Effective Governance Principles to Leave No One, No Place Behind”.

The objective of this workshop is to convene Key Provincial Officials and officials in ministries in Port Vila to develop recommendations for improving national and local coordination in delivering the NSDP and SDGs in collaboration with national government officials and international experts. The workshop will be held in a hybrid format on 20-22 July from 09:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m (Vanuatu Time). For more information, please click title/picture.
