Virtual Capacity development training workshops on how to promote resilience and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa through sound policymaking, which UN DESA is organizing in collaboration with the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and with the support of Resident Coordinators Offices.  The workshops will be held virtually using the zoom platform respectively on 16 November, 8 December 2021 and on 5 January 2022. A briefing session on the 2022 United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) programme was held virtually on 14 October to provide an overview of the programme and share past winners' insight on the impact of the Award and how it has helped to promote innovation in their local and national governments.

The 4th Western Balkan (WB6) Digital Summit was organized in hybrid platform on 11-13 October 2021 in Podgorica, Montenegro. The WB6 Digital Summit 2021 aimed at showcasing good practices in the Western Balkans, highlighting the achievements and outcomes of the Digital Agenda, and exploring possibilities of building partnerships with the private sector, in the context of the digital transformation process. The future of sustainable development will be determined in part in urban areas. SMART cities promise to transform sustainable urban development. To strengthen the capacities of national policymakers and local authorities responsible for digital transformation and building SMART cities, a capacity building webinar was held on 9 September 2021 via Zoom. The workshop was organized by UN DESA/DPIDG on 3-5 August 2021, in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zerde National Info communication Holding JSC, National Information Technologies JSC and other partners.
