UNPAN is coordinated by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG). The Network is managed in close partnership with a group of international, regional and subregional institutions devoted to governance and public institutions for sustainable development.

Sustainable Development Goals
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

The UNPAN website provides access to a multitude of online services related to governance and public administration, including an e-Library, containing publications, policy notes, papers and other analytical tools shared by the UNPAN Members and Associate Members. It also offers online trainings, webinars, advisory services and discussion forums.

Public Institutions and the SDGs
Effective governance and public institutions play a critical role in the achievement of all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets. The Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) has developed a set of principles of effective governance for sustainable development, which were endorsed by the Economic and Social Council on 2 July 2018.

The United Nations is now accepting nominations for the 2022 United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA).  The UNPSA promotes and rewards innovation and excellence in public services in support of the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the principle of leaving no one behind. Virtual Capacity development training workshops on how to promote resilience and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa through sound policymaking, which UN DESA is organizing in collaboration with the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and with the support of Resident Coordinators Offices.  The workshops will be held virtually using the zoom platform respectively on 16 November, 8 December 2021 and on 5 January 2022. UN DESA / DPIDG, through its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), and in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) of the Government of the Republic of Korea, is organizing the 5th Regional Symposium on "Effective Public Governance and Digital Transformation for Building Back Better," which will be held on 16 - 18 November 2021 (11:00 a.m - 14:00 p.m. GMT+9, Seoul Time). Job Opening : Staff Assistant

This G-5 position is located in the Digital Government Branch in the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Staff Assistant reports to the Chief of Branch. DPIDG focuses on supporting countries in improving effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels for internationally agreed development goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
