Sustainable Development Goals
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

The UNPAN website provides access to a multitude of online services related to governance and public administration, including an e-Library, containing publications, policy notes, papers and other analytical tools shared by the UNPAN Members and Associate Members. It also offers online trainings, webinars, advisory services and discussion forums.

Public Institutions and the SDGs
Effective governance and public institutions play a critical role in the achievement of all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets. The Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) has developed a set of principles of effective governance for sustainable development, which were endorsed by the Economic and Social Council on 2 July 2018.

Call for Papers : Challenges of effective governance for sustainable development at subnational government levels

The Journal for Public Sector Economics is calling for papers for the thematic issue on "Challenges of effective governance for sustainable development at subnational government levels". The editors welcome theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented contributions analyzing the challenges and policy options faced by subnational governments committed to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Some key issues to be addressed include: How have subnational governments in countries around the world changed and adapted? What policy and implementation challenges have they faced? Which measures have they implemented? How? What are the policy implications and lessons learned? The manuscript deadline is 15 February 2022. More information is available here.

Regional Webinars in Africa on Resilience and Recovery from Covid-19 Through Sound Policymaking / Strategic planning and foresight

Virtual capacity development training workshop on how to promote resilience and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa through sound policymaking, which UN DESA is organizing in collaboration with the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and with the support of Resident Coordinators Offices.  This workshop aims at developing the capacities of national governments to promote sound policymaking, with a particular focus on strategic planning and foresight.  It will be held virtually using the zoom platform respectively on 8 December 2021 from 8-10am (Eastern Standard Time) / 3-5pm (South Africa Standard time).  For more information, click on the photo/title or here.

Webinar on Strengthening Capacities, Mindsets, and Competencies of Public Institutions to Build the Next Generation of Public Servants in the Arab Region

UN DESA / DPIDG in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA) and the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) are organizing a capacity development webinar to launch the Curriculum on Governance for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (the "Curriculum") in the Arab region on Monday 29 November 2021 at 9am (NY time) / 4pm (Beirut time).  The Curriculum, developed by UN DESA, will be launched through regional events in cooperation with the regional commissions and relevant partners.  ARADO will complement the adaptation of the training material in its 22 member states.  UN ESCWA will present its Common Arab Region Job Competencies for Senior Public Servants within the context of Agenda 2030 developed by UN ESCWA.  For more information, click on the photo / title or on this link.

Inter-ministerial Technical Workshop on Implementing the One-Door-Service Centers (ODSCs) in Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR)

UN DESA/DPIDG and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA), Lao People’s Democratic Republic, in collaboration with the Resident Coordinator Office in Lao PDR and UNDP, is organizing on 22 November 2021 from 9pm to 12am EST (Tuesday 23 November from 9am to 12pm Lao time) a virtual Inter-Ministerial Policy Workshop on One-Door-Service Centers (ODCSs) as a follow-up to the Inter-Ministerial Technical Workshop, which was attended by senior officials from 18 ministries, including the Prime Minister’s Office, and was held on 28 October 2021.  For more information, click on the title / photo.
